Departments

Our Association is fortunate to have a membership and staff whose efforts go beyond their professional requirements.

This Update comes at the launch of a very busy year, with WSRI’s April Annual Meeting just around the corner. At this writing, two research projects are in their final stages, and we’ve begun the process for selecting two new projects from among twelve outstanding project proposals.

Log A Load for Kids Update 2012

Written by Bev Bruton

My name is Rich Palermo, and I am honored and humbled to be elected the first Log A Load For Kids® Foundation Chairman of the Board. I would like to take this opportunity to extend my sincerest gratitude to our past Chairwoman, Lisa Medici of Medici Logging, from Westwood, California, for her success in leading the Log A Load For Kids Advisory Group to its newly gained Foundation status.

This spring, the WSRI Board took further steps to increase non-members’ awareness of the 18 current WSRI Projects that are accessible to all, and to publicize these Projects’ findings.

One of the benefits of FRA meetings is hearing the thoughts of some of the smartest people in our industry. That was clearly the case at our recent Fall Board Meeting, with the state of our economy on everyone’s mind.

By poplar request, and with WSRI Board approval, WSRI and the National Council for Air and Stream Improvement (NCASI) have agreed to co-sponsor a new research project through Auburn University by Dr. Tom Gallagher and Dr. Mathew Smidt on “Factors Affecting Fuel Consumption and Harvesting Cost.” As fuel costs rise, this Project’s data will grow dramatically in value.

If you bring up bioenergy or biofuels in a conversation today, the reaction will range from laughter to disgust. These reactions are justified.

2010 Fundraising Totals

Log A Load For Kids® raised over $1.7 million in 2010, despite the hard times. Here’s how individual states stacked up in raising funds for CMN Hospitals last year.

The Log A Load For Kids® program is a fundraising campaign that began informally in 1988 in South Carolina to benefit hospitals affiliated with Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals (CMN Hospitals), all of which are 501(c)3 organizations and pledge to provide services to their patients regardless of ability to pay.
