Forest Operation Review

The Official Publication of the Forest Resources Association

Chariman's Message

Our Association is fortunate to have a membership and staff whose efforts go beyond their professional requirements.

One of the benefits of FRA meetings is hearing the thoughts of some of the smartest people in our industry. That was clearly the case at our recent Fall Board Meeting, with the state of our economy on everyone’s mind.

If you bring up bioenergy or biofuels in a conversation today, the reaction will range from laughter to disgust. These reactions are justified.

“The Fly-In”

Not being a fan of suits, cities, or politicians, I was outside my comfort zone when it came time for FRA’s Fly-In to lobby Congress this past March 17.

One of the great rewards that come from chairing an Association like ours is seeing smart, busy people making it their business to see it succeed—succeed in its mission and succeed as an organization. Seeing members at all levels making time to assist with the issues they all face, and in so doing making FRA truly "their" Association, reaffirms FRA's importance to me.

I’m writing weeks in advance of the November 2 national mid-term Elections. This Forest Operations Review is scheduled to be mailed a few days after that date.
